Drama Week

"The best response to my drama sessions that I have experienced in 44 years of teaching! What fantastic children!"
This was Simon Stone's comment as he said goodbye after a week of leading each class in a full day of drama!
Not only did the children absolutely love the drama activities, but they have also been inspired to produce "some of the best writing my class has ever done."
Many thanks to Simon for his energy, ideas and fantastic props!
I hope you will take the time to see some of the outcomes of the week as they appear on the class displays in the corridor.
Many thanks too, to the three students from Plymouth University, especially Scott Sanders, for leading more fun and engaging drama based upon books and poems with four of the classes.
The teachers also felt that our joint days, when the children worked collaboratively with older or younger children, were really enjoyed by everyone and had lots of benefits.

Drama Week

This week all the classes are having a week of drama activities. Apart from the fun of taking part in lots of drama, developing confidence in speaking, listening, co-operating and performing, we are also using drama as a stimulus for the children's writing.
Each class will be benefiting from a day's workshop from a specialist drama teacher, Simon Stone who will be using a piece of children's literature as a starting point for a full day of drama. The class teachers will then be following up this input with a range of writing activity.
Each class will also have a day when the children will be split and will be working with older or younger children and the teachers will be working together. Year 4 will be working with their buddies in Reception, Years 1 and 3 will be working together and Year 2 will be spending a day with children from Pre School.
We also have three students from Plymouth University who will be leading drama, reading and writing activities with all the classes except for Reception. They will also be using a piece of literature as the stimulus for a day's work.
Class teachers will be filling the rest of the week with other drama/literacy based work.
It is planned to display some of the children's work from this drama week in the corridor so we hope to be able to impress you with the outcomes!

Why has the field been ploughed up?

As part of our Farm to Fork Week, Year 4 will be sowing some wheat, barley and peas on Friday. So we asked Farmer Hoskin to provide a 5 share plough to provide the earth to do our sowing. Thanks to Clive for his help!
The children will be seeing what difference treated and untreated seed makes to the success of the growing. They will also be planting some seeds at different times to see what effect that has.
We may need some help when it is harvest time because the combine certainly won't fit! Some manual labour I think!
Can I ask that parents help us by telling the children not to walk on the ploughed area after school?

Our assembly this morning about the way that the French express their belief in the universal values of Freedom, Equality and Friendship. If your child is in Year 3 or 4 we hope to see you on Thursday at our French cafe, with your best French accents!

Love your bike!

Children are invited to decorate their bike or scooter to show how much they love it and then to bring it into school on Tuesday 10th February when we shall be having another get together with Jonathon Dixon from Sustrans.

We are all free to choose what we believe!

Today's assembly was all about freedom of religion. We looked at the major faiths practised in UK and thought about how we can all choose what we believe about God, including the freedom to say we don't believe at all. It is also important to respect the opinions of others.
