Christmas jumpers on the last day

It has come to our attention that tomorrow is causing some confusion as to whether children can wear jumpers or not. We are aware that tomorrow is a National charity day which highlights the wear of jumpers in support. We have chosen due to our three big fund raisers this term not to ask you to support this charity. We are also aware of many parents and children who wish to wear a jumper tomorrow and have been asking the class teams.

So, the simple answer is yes, jumpers can be worn, but we will not be collecting for charity. If you do wish to donate, then please use the website link highlighted in the press.

We apologise for the lateness and confusion, this event seems to have grown since last year, we will therefore be clearer next year with plenty of time to plan accordingly.

Also -Games are also allowed on the last day of term, named please and nothing expensive in case bits are lost!

Merry Christmas!

DT competition results!

We had excellent DT entries brought into school on Friday for the DT Christmas competition. A particularly good amount of entries from the Reception class and Year 1 class, so well done to these two classes.

All entries were super, lots of thoughts had been placed into designs, clearly child participation in all entries and all were able to attach to the Christmas tree and look eye catching.

What was also pleasing to see was the good sportsmanship from all children, never mind if they ‘won’, it was super to see such kind hearts and congratulations being given to the winner with handshakes and pats on backs!

Each class had a winner:

Reception: Philippa Hoskin

Yr 1: Thomas Grant

Yr 2: Odette Mistry-Dyer

Yr 3: Millie Goldstone

Yr 4: Alex Mistry-Dyer

Well done to everyone and their family helpers for participating in the competition. These are now on display in the foyer area near the ‘big’ tree.

Musicians assembly - Monday 7th Dec

On Monday 7th December it is our Musicians Christmas assembly at 10am in the school hall. This assembly gives all children who are learning instruments the opportunity to perform to an audience. Your child should have received a letter if they have been chosen to play. They therefore need to remember their music and instrument too!

Today's Eco Assembly

In our school assembly this morning the children found out about some of the different ways we are trying to be an "eco-friendly" school. We did some mathematics to work out how much money we've been spending on paper towels; far too much! And then we looked at our new more efficient paper-towel dispensers and talked about how we can try to get our hands dry just using one towel each time.

We looked at the biodegradable waste bags we are using. We talked about how Mr. Butcher is replacing light bulbs with new more efficient (and therefore cheaper) ones.

The children in Year 4 have created a "Green Procurement Policy". We are all on board to use products that only have a minimal impact on the environment. We are all trying not to be wasteful and trying to make sure we all do our best to take responsibility.

Can you help?

This year we have decided to support a local charity. The campaign was started by a local ten year old girl called Missy who, with support from her mother, is working with Dorset Back on Track, a charity which supports the homeless and vulnerable to provide their clients something special this Christmas.

Hopefully you have all had a chance to read the leaflet we sent home on Friday. Non perishable items can be placed into Christmas bags and given to staff in Year 1 on Friday the 11th December. We cannot take any of the bags before hand as we do not have enough storage space.

We hope to spread a little Christmas cheer to those less fortunate.

Award assembly 22.10.15

Today we had our first of the year ‘Award assembly’. This is the assembly when we ask teachers and their teams to select children who they think have worked particularly hard during this first part of the year in subject areas; writing, reading, maths, ICT, Creative arts, PE and displaying our Citizenship qualities.  Some awards have a certificate and a trophy to keep for half a term! You may have found one of these when you got home!

For our Reception parents; the awards can stay at home with your child until we send a letter inviting it back in for our next ‘Award assembly’.

Happy half term everyone, we will see you all back on Tuesday 3rd November!

Indeed a Harvest celebration!

We were so proud of the children this morning performing their songs to a large audience. A fantastic array of wonderful harvest offerings too, again we thank everyone for their offerings. We will let you know shortly of the monies raised.
I'm sure you will agree that the art work and the baking from each class was inspiring. It was also a delight to be able to announce Archie and Bruno from Year 3 winning the Kingston Maurward poetry and music competition too!
We had great fun with our 'Bake off' competition, culminating with our very own Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood judging!  'Star bake 2015' went to Reception for their 'Reception Farm'.
The cafĂ© was a huge success, a great turn out, thank you to all who came and supported it. A massive thank you to POWSA as we would simply not be able to run events like this without them.

Tuesday 6 October 2015

We need your help for harvest!

Can you:

Offer any goodies to help decorate the Harvest table for Friday's celebrations - teasels, bunches of corn, gourds, .... please bring into the school office - much appreciated!

The children are busily preparing goodies for the cafĂ© on Friday, if you are also able to produce goodies to offer to the cafĂ©, these would be much appreciated! Again, please bring down to the servery/ kitchen  area on Friday morning or pass to the General TA in your child's classroom.

Home Learning for the school!

Home Learning  - Harvest celebration

(week commencing Monday 5th October)

During the week of Monday 5th October as usual we have planned opportunities throughout the week where the children learn about: food and where it comes from, visits to Maiden Castle farm, creating art pieces, cooking, thinking about seasonal food, creating goodies for the Harvest café using our orchard goodies, looking at India farming and of course the reason behind Harvest itself!

We thought this year we would have a ‘Bake off’ format to the week as the ‘Great British Bake off’ has been inspiring staff as well as the nation!

So, if your child wishes to, the Home Learning for the children is to…

Create their own bread and bring into school through the week leading up to our Harvest celebration! The class will taste it and talk about how it was made.

Everyone will need to share the ingredients and how they made their bread (write down or be able to talk about).

‘Bread’ products are wide and varied across the world, so experiment, create!

Through the week each class has also been set the challenge of creating a ‘master piece!’

These will be displayed outside of the hall for our Harvest celebration.

We will have our very own ‘Mary and Paul’ to taste each class’s efforts and decide upon a winner! Be ready to ask your child all about it!
